At Yoga Nivas, Ajeet’s classes are based on the teachings of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan
Ajeet has performed extensively as a performance artist and with Jim Henson Productions in the United States and Europe as well as visiting India’s sacred temples and training in Kundalini for 17 years with her teacher, Yogi Bhajan. She has been called Queen of Yoga. Her style blends over 30 years of professional dance, acting, authentic movement and the pure science of this sacred tradition to bring about an ease and grace with your true self. Her gift is in drawing people towards awareness of their spiritual essence, achieving self-happiness and healing themselves so their voice in the world is heard and seen.
Her teacher, Yogi Bhajan, born in India on August 26th, 1929, became a Master of Kundalini Yoga at the age of 16 under the tutelage of the great Master Sant Hazara Singh. He came to the United States in 1969, and began teaching Kundalini Yoga, also know as the “Yoga of Awareness”. Before this time, this sacred technology was passed only from Master to Student, and was never taught openly. Kundalini Yoga is a science that works on all different levels (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual) and has the capacity to change a person’s destiny.
Yogi Bhajan always told his students that he did not come here to gather disciples, but rather to train teachers. There are currently thousands of certified Kundalini Yoga Instructors around the world. For teachers and Kundalini yoga classes in your area, visit: www.kundaliniyoga.com
Yoga Nivas classes enable you to balance body, mind, and spirit, all in the comfort of an authentic yoga ashram. With Kundalini Yoga, results are definite and can be experienced after your first session; there is a kriya for absolutely everything within the human psyche that can possibly be imagined. The practice is life-long and energetic.
Here are some postures and meditation to try yourself.
Kriyas you can practice at home
So Darshan Chakra Kriya: Sit in easy pose. Focus the eyes at the tip of the nose. The right thumb blocks off the right nostril. Inhale deeply through the left, fingers point straight up. With your breath held in, pump the navel 16 times as you mentally chant, ‘wahe-guru’. Each pump is done 3 times–wha–hey–guru–for a total of 48 pumps per inhale. Then exhale by blocking the left nostril with the pinky and let the air go out of the right nostril. ( I count the pumps with my right thumb on each line of the finger, plus the tip of the thumb to equal 16. (16×3=48)). This is where the science comes in! Do it for 11 minutes to start, gradually building up to 31. It gives you insight, clarity and absolute grace. To end, stretch the arms up in the air and SHAKE them for 1 minutes. Relax!
Sat Kriya: Using the mantra, SAT NAM (truth is the identity of me, or my own true self) sit on the heels in rock pose. If that’s painful, put a block or hard pillow in between your feet–not the knees–and shoot your butt back on to the heels while you straighten up your spine. Place the arms up in the air and squeeze your ears with your elbows–keep them stretched up through the back. Point just the index fingers straight with the other fingers clasped and folded over one another. Begin pulling in the navel and powerfully chanting (not singing!) SAT and then releasing the belly and whisper NAM. Don’t try to do anything with the breath as it will naturally find it’s state of ease. Just focus on the chant and the pulling of the navel (3 fingers below belly button) and relaxing it. I focus on the third eye point at the brow and chant in this way for 3, 6, 11, 31 minutes. Whatever time you choose, you must rest for double the amount when you’re done! Relax after. Sat Kriya cleanses out the naval chakra, removing trama, rape and sexual imbalances. It also cures father phobias, is great for women who are overly anxious and who desire a man, instead of looking to the inner male vitality within. For men, it balances the brain, too.
Stretch Pose: Every morning before you get out or jump out of the bed, practice this pose to naturally and effectively balance the nervous and circulatory systems. Draw the knees into the chest–fold them in like paper–pull the shins with the hands outside of the legs and draw the backs of the thighs into the ribs. Then stretch the legs straight away and your toes away from the nose. Bringing the arms and fingers to boat pose–stretching them towards the feet–open the eyes and look directly at the feet while sniffing rapidly through the nose. This ‘fire breathing’ or breath of fire has a definite awakening effect and focuses only on the exhale as the inhale, when done vibrantly, happens naturally. Do it for 1-3 minutes and feel the prana flowing! Go to the sink, wash with cold water and enjoy the day.
See you in class!
